First Thoughts

Today, we have seen the news that the march in Queen Street for "Democracy", attracted about 5000 people.

This will be marked as a point of success by all of those who have sincerely hoped that the furore over the non-acceptance of the Smacking Referendum by John Key would silently shrivel and disappear.

Organisers were warned that this might be the result of their determination to keep this matter to the fore through street marches and public display. Why then did people not attend?

Because they basically know that to do so is futile. A Government which did not listen to 1.5 million of its voters will not listen to a street march, and anyway, the people themselves are now angry and chasing other cars. There is a basic issue affecting New Zealand, in terms of its Government, and that is the lack of a true, defined and written Constitution. There is no one, clear and defined path of the citizen to see the limits and extent of Government allowed in this country.

Over the next while, I intend to write further in support of a Constitution, and in support of steps to allow this to haoppen. Not perhaps in my lifetime, but to happen anyway. Welcome to my new Blog, and my attempt to show intelliget life does not become extinct south of the Ellerslie Turnoff.
